ATATÜRK'ÜN GENÇLİĞE HİTABESİ

Ey Türk Gençliği!

Birinci vazifen, Türk İstiklalini, Türk Cumhuriyetini, ilelebet, muhafaza ve müdafaa etmektir.
Mevcudiyetinin ve istikbalinin yeğane temeli budur. Bu temel, senin, en kıymetli hazinendir. İstikbalde dahi, seni, bu hazineden, mahrum etmek isteyecek, dahili ve harici, bedhahların olacaktır. Bir gün, istiklal ve cumhuriyeti müdafaa mecburiyetine düşersen, vazifeye atılmak için, içinde bulunacağın vaziyetin imkan ve şeraitini düşünmiyeceksin! Bu imkan ve şerait, çok namüsait bir mahiyette tezahür edebilir. İstiklal ve cumhuriyetine kastedecek düşmanlar, bütün dünyada emsali görülmemiş bir galibiyetin mümessili olabilirler. Cebren ve hile ile aziz vatanın, bütün kaleleri zaptedilmiş, bütün tersanelerine girilmiş, bütün orduları dağıtılmış ve memleketin her köşesi bir fiil işgal edilmiş olabilir. Bütün bu şeraitten daha elim ve daha vahim olmak üzere, memleketin dahilinde iktidara sahip olanlar, gaflet ve delalet hatta hiyanet içinde bulunabilirler. Hatta bu iktidar sahipleri şahsi mefaatlerini, müstevlilerin siyasi emelleriyle tehvid edebilirler. Millet, fakr-ü zaruret içinde harap ve bitap düşmüş olabilir. Ey Türk istikbalinin evladı! İşte; bu ahval ve şerait içinde dahi, vazifen; Türk istiklal ve cumhuriyetini kurtarmaktır! Muhtaç olduğun kudret, damarlarındaki asil kanda, mevcuttur!

MUSTAFA KEMAL ATATÜRK'S ADDRESS TO THE TURKISH YOUTH

Turkish Youth,
Your first duty is forever to preserve and defend the Turkish independence and the Turkish Republic.
This is the most important aspect of your heritage. In the future, too, there may be malevolent people at home and abroad who will wish to deprive you of this treasure. If one day you are compelled to defend your independence and your Republic, you must not run from your responsibilities even though circumstances may turn out to be extremely unfavourable. The enemies conspiring against your independence and your Republic, may have the support of the whole world behind them.
It may be that, by violence and ruse, all the fortresses of your beloved fatherland may be captured, all ists armies dispersed and every part of the country invaded. And sadder and graver than all these circumstances, those who hold power within the country may be in error, misguided and may even be traitors. Furthermore; they may identify their personal interests with the political designs of the invaders. The country may be impoverished, ruined and exhausted.
Youth of Turkey's future, even in such circumstances, it is your duty to save the Turkish independence and Republic. You will always find the strength you need in your noble blood.
